BLOGGING IN PLACE

An empty page. It’s every author’s challenge, me included.

“What next?” I always ask myself, after completing a chapter. Some days the answer appears in large chunks. Other days in dribs and drabs. On still other days, I sit forever before a blank screen before I finally put it all aside and ask, “Why in hell do I do this to myself?”

While writing The Lincoln Moon, there probably wasn’t a day when I didn’t think, “Who would want to read this?” I kept going, however, because my characters and my story brought me joy. Lo and behold, I finished it.

But when it was eventually published, I asked myself, “Who would buy this thing, anyway”?” Slowly, however, readers found it online, reviews trickled in (mostly good), and sales increased.

Late last year, Blackstone Publishing contacted me to purchase the audio rights to The Lincoln Moon, and it’s now available on Audible.com!

So now, as I sit to write another book, I face yet another blank screen and yet again, I ask myself, “Why am I doing this? Who cares about what I have to say?”

Then this morning I received an email from Amazon informing me that The Lincoln Moon has been selected as part of their Prime Reading program!

All of which has led me to this conclusion: I need to quit talking to myself and just write.
